FAQ
When and where is it?
May 15, 2027 in Scottsdale, AZ.
Who is organizing this and why?
Josh Pauli is organizing this golf event in honor of his late dad, Wayne "El Guapo" Pauli. The whole weekend will have a "What Would Wayne Do?" (WWWD) vibe to it. For those that never met him or didn't get a chance to spend time with him socially, he loved to host big groups.
Who is El Guapo?
El Guapo is a character from the movie "Three Amigos!" that translates to "The Good Looking One," a name that friends and family called Wayne! :-)
Who's invited?
You're one of 22 people personally invited. This is NOT an open invite to be shared.
Who else is on the list, so I can pick playing partners?
Twenty-two of us for the weekend: Brent Andersen, Adam Anderson, Pat Engebretson, Austin Falor, Cade Falor, Mark Ferber, Corbin Gunderson, Tom Halverson, Brent Holden, Oliver Jankord, David Jencks, James Johnson, Ross Knutson, Stacy Krusemark, Ian McKeithen, Kyle Nettestad, Jeremy Pauli, Josh Pauli, Luke Schnell, Jason Smith, Ced Stark, and Josh Tirrel. Let us know on the registration form if you want to be grouped with someone specific.
What about Wayne do I need to bring on this trip?
You do need to exhibit a few of his traits: be happy in the sun, be happy on the golf course, be happy eating and drinking, and be happy around friends and family. I'm doing this to honor my dad and spend a weekend with my closest friends and family that enjoy golf. Maybe it's part of my midlife crisis. If so, we're going to have a good time with it!
So it's just one day?
Yes, the official El Guapo event is one day on May 15, 2027 of morning golf, afternoon pool (or more golf), an evening meal, and social time. However, we encourage you to make a weekend of it in AZ: golf, swim, hike, eat, drink, float the Salt River, roll the dice at a casino, whatever! Once we have the group, we can fill out the weekend with additional activities or you can take off on your own. The official itinerary will be on Saturday, May 15th.
Are we all staying together?
I'm going to get a BIG HOUSE in Scottsdale that could accommodate all of us: tons of bedrooms and bathrooms, awesome pool and outdoor area, and invite a personal chef to prepare supper for us on Saturday evening. It's not a requirement to stay in the BIG HOUSE, so let me know during registration if you want to stay. I'm planning on being in the BIG HOUSE Friday–Monday. We will divide the cost but estimate $150 per night per person.
Can I attend if I don't want to golf?
Yes! Please register so we know how many people for other activities! El Guapo would be just as happy floating in the pool all day with you drinking margs. I do hope you'll golf, even if you're dog shit on the course. This is about spending time together as 22 dudes. Nobody cares if you suck at golf. Nobody cares if you shoot 134. Nobody will remember anything about the golf. What you will remember is being part of a group, enjoying a beautiful day, and spending 4 hours on an epic golf course.
Where are we golfing?
The Saguaro Course at We-Ko-Pa, one of the finest courses in Arizona. We have five tee times starting at 8:00 AM. Cost is $239 plus tax. You can rent clubs if you don't want to travel with your set.
Do I have to be good at golf to attend?
Nope, all levels welcome! This list includes guys that will shoot 77 through 150.
Do I need a golf handicap to attend?
Nope, this is a fun event, so no central scoring will be kept. Perhaps your foursome will want to play various golf games.
How will the foursomes work?
Twenty-two people means five foursomes and a twosome. We'll sort out who's playing with whom once everyone's registered but let me know if you want to be grouped with someone specific.
How are you going to update the group?
I'll send out emails and update the itinerary on this website as the plan comes into focus.
When is the RSVP deadline?
October 15, 2026 so I can get a BIG HOUSE for all interested in staying together and lock down the tee times.
Isn't it too hot to golf in AZ in May?
No. There's no humidity. Golfing in 100 degrees in AZ is more comfortable than 85 and humid in the midwest. Believe me.
